DESCRIPTION

The archaeological zone of Huchuy Qosqo or “Small Cusco”, was known during Inca times as Qaqyaqawana (which in Spanish means “place from where you can see the thunder”). According to the chroniclers, this site was inhabited by the Inca Wiracocha until his death. It is mentioned that of them there are at least 2 buildings. In addition, the presence of platforms and cliffs. Also, from Huchuy Qosqo you have a spectacular view of the Sacred Valley of the Incas and the mountains of the Urubamba Cordillera.

OVERVIEW

HUCHUY QOSQO TREK

DAY 1: CUSCO – PUCAMARCA

Huchuy Qosqo Trek, very early in the morning, we will pick you up at your hotel with our transport which will take us, with all the equipment, to the surroundings of Tambomachay which was the favorite resting place of the Inca Rulers in 30 minutes.

There, we will make a previous visit of the Archaeological Site of Tambomachay, and continue the journey heading to the Lagoons of “Qoriqocha” (known as the Golden Lagoon) and ducks, are one of the most famous lagoons of the route which we will visit in our journey. We will reach the Community of Pumamarca in 7 hours.

The Indigenous Community of Pucamarca is the site for lunchtime, after lunch we will make a previous visit to the people’s house to see the way of life they lead and also visit the surroundings of the village and experience the nursery of the Andean camelids in families. Then we will camp here to and spend the night in this village.

DAY 2: PUKAMARCA – HUCHUY QOSQO – CUSCO

In the morning after the typical breakfast, we will say goodbye to the families and continue towards the Archaeological Complex of Huchuy Qosqo for around 1h30m. There, we will wait for a typical lunch and visit the majestic Inca Archaeological Complex “Huchuy Qosqo” (El Pequeño Cusco ). We will observe ceremonial centers, squares, canals, platforms, enclosures, etc. For a while short time of 2 hours in the afternoon, we will descend to the town of Lamay where you will be able to enjoy seeing the Sacred Valley of the Incas until arriving at the district of Lamay. Our transport will wait for us to return to the City of Cusco.

ITINERARY

HUCHUY QOSQO TREK

DAY1: CUSCO PUCAMARCA

  • Pick-up from the hotel and transfer in transportation to the Tambomachay Archaeological Site, favorite place of rest of the Inca Governors in 30 minutes.
  • Then, we will visit the Archaeological Site of Tambomachay that consists of a series of aqueducts, canals and several waterfalls that run through the rocks for 20 minutes.
  • From Tambomachay, we will start our trek to the Pumamarca Community, on the way we will visit two famous “Qoriqocha” Lagoons (known as the Golden Lagoon) and “Yanaqocha” (known as the Black Lagoon) all this in 7 hours including the visit of the lagoons.
  • We will arrive in the Community of Pumamarca where we will camp and spend the night.

DAY 2: PUKAMARCA HUCHUY QOSQO CUSCO

  • In the morning, we will have a breakfast to continue with our hike towards the Archaeological Complex of Huchuy Qosqo for 1 hour and 30 minutes.
  • You will visit an Archaeological Complex of Huchuy Qosqo called by the Incas that in Spanish means the small Cusco, for 2 hours.
  • In the afternoon, we will descend to the village of Lamay where you can enjoy seeing the Sacred Valley of the Incas, 1 hour and 30 minutes.
  • Arriving in Lamay, we will be waiting for the transportation back to the city of Cusco so that you rest in your hotel.
